Upminster

Upminster, C2C platforms, looking west towards Fenchurch Street, at 11.44 on Tuesday, 5th November 2024. This station was opened on 1st May 1885 by the LTSR with their 'cut-off' line between Barking and Pitsea to avoid the long detour to Southend via the original line through Grays and Tilbury. LU District Line services from Ealing Broadway ran all the way to Southend from 1910 until 1939, changing from electric to steam locomotives at Barking; this service was not resumed after 1945. An additional set of tracks for the exclusive use of local District Line trains was built alongside the line from Barking to Upminster in 1932.
