New Mills South Junction

1950s map extract showing lines through New Mills, although a present day map would only be missing the Hayfield branch, closed in 1970. At the bottom is New Mills Newtown on the Buxton line. Next the line from Northenden through long Disley Tunnel, freight only from 1969 but, with the 1986 Hazel Grove Chord, again used by express passenger services routing via Stockport. The northerly line, meeting the Hazel Grove route at New Mills South Junction, carries Hope Valley locals between Manchester and Sheffield, and others terminating at New Mills Central.
