Appleby East
Looking north from the old level crossing at Appleby East on 25th November 2024, you can clearly see where the county council have attempted to cover over the tracks on the road. The line runs into a headshunt which meets the link from Appleby West on the S&C but would have continued to Penrith on the old Eden Valley Railway before its closure in 1962. Photo 31065 shows this spot in 2010 before the level crossing gates were removed.
