Orpington

465162 just arrived at bay platform 8 at Orpington, in rain that turned into a few snow flurries, at 14.12 on Saturday, 23rd November 2024. Orpington was originally opened by the South Eastern Railway on 2nd March 1868 and rebuilt with 6 platforms in 1904. The line from Victoria via Bromley South as far as here was electrified by the Southern Railway in 1925. The station was further enlarged in the 1990s with the addition of bay platforms 7 and 8, built on the site of old carriage sidings and also used by Thameslink trains to Luton and Bedford.
