Newtown Tunnel

Although called Newtown Tunnel, and just down the hill from New Mills Newtown station, this structure is on a different and unconnected line. The station is on the LNWR Buxton line, whereas the tunnel is on the Midland line from New Mills South Junction to Northenden, now linked at the Hazel Grove Chord to Stockport and used by TPE and East Midlands services between Manchester and Sheffield. View towards Hazel Grove, over a high bridge parapet, just after a TPE service to Cleethorpes had passed, on 30th October 2024.
