Newcastle Central

First day of services to Ashington. Sixty years after its short-sighted closure to passengers by Beeching in 1964, the Ashington line has at long last been reopened, although re-christened The Northumberland Line. On the First Day, 158860 with 158843 waits in Newcastle preparing to depart with the 11.53 to Ashington. I had just alighted from the 08.52 Lumo service from King's Cross, which arrived 5 minutes late at 11.45, so there was just enough time to take this photo before climbing on board.
