Benton station, Tyne & Wear Metro, with a traditional style shelter on the platform for trains to St. James via the coast, seen from unit 4033 from St. James to South Shields arriving at 13.41 on Monday, 16th December 2024. The line was opened by the North Eastern Railway on 27th June 1864 but this station did not open until 1st March 1871. It was temporarily closed for conversion into the Metro on 23rd January 1978 and reopened with the Metro's first stage from Haymarket to Tynemouth on 11th August 1980.
