Cullercoats

My favourite station on the Tyne & Wear Metro, Cullercoats with its splendid footbridge, looking north and very atmospheric after dark, at 16.24 on Monday, 16th December 2024. The first station was opened by the NER on 27th June 1864 and closed when the line was realigned closer to the sea, with this replacement opening on 3rd July 1882 as part of the North Tyneside Loop. The last BR trains called on 10th September 1979, when the line and station were temporarily closed for conversion into the Metro system and reopened on 11th August 1980 with the first section between Haymarket and Tynemouth.
