Middleton Junction

A short distance from Middleton Junction, the 1842 line to Oldham Werneth crossed the Rochdale Canal but this abutment on the east bank is all that remains of the bridge. The steps lead up to a trackbed footpath, which follows the Chadderton Goods line to its old terminus just over half a mile from here. However, virtually all traces of the Werneth Incline route beyond Chadderton Junction have been removed. See 91709 taken from the bridge looking along the line towards Chadderton.
