Chadderton Goods

Chadderton Goods, a short L&YR branch off the Middleton Junction to Oldham Werneth route, was opened in 1914. It never carried passengers but was kept busy serving mills and factories around Chadderton. As built there were six sidings on the south side of a coal and mineral yard but no goods shed. Later it became a two-siding Coal Concentration Depot, surviving until 1988. In 1991 the tracks were lifted and the site turned over to modern housing but the Hunt Lane bridge that marked the rail entrance to Chadderton Goods survives, seen here from the trackbed path in December 2024
