Shawclough and Healey

Looking towards Rochdale at Shawclough and Healey on a misty 27th December 2024. This is the Whitworth Road Tunnel, 43 yards long, for the former single track line between Bacup and Rochdale. After closure to freight in 1967 some sections were turned into cycleways, including this one. Shawclough and Healey station itself was a few hundred yards towards Bacup from here. It closed to passengers in 1947 and to goods traffic in 1964 and has since been completely built over.
