Tynemouth, Tyne & Wear Metro, looking towards Whitley Bay, at 17.00 on Monday, 16th December 2024. This was opened by the NER on 7th July 1882, replacing one from 1864 when the line was resited nearer the coast. It became a Metro station on 11th August 1980, a temporary terminus with the first stage of the network from Haymarket around the north side of the North Tyneside Loop, before extension to St. James on 14th November 1982. In the last full year of BR trains, it became a Grade 1 Listed Station on 2nd November 1978.
