This innocent looking bridge, 100 yards east of Musgrave between Kirkby Stephen and Appleby attracted national interest when, in July 2021, National Highways filled the arch with concrete claiming it was 'unstable'. This 'cultural vandalism' was followed by protests from enthusiasts and it transpired planning permission had been refused. Eden Council ordered the infill to be removed and in Autumn 2023 the bridge reopened, concreteless. The saga cost nearly £500,000 but ensured the Stainmore Railway Company at Kirkby Stephen and Eden Valley Railway Trust at Warcop may one day be able to join up.
