Flixton

As built in 1873 the Cheshire Lines route between Manchester and Liverpool was virtually dead straight between Trafford Park and Padgate. In 1893 a new formation was created between Flixton and Irlam to lift the line over the Manchester Ship Canal. Seen from Flixton station, this TPE Cleethorpes to Lime St service negotiates the deviation on to the 1893 line on 5th February 2025. Much of the old alignment has disappeared beneath housing on the Flixton side of the canal but is clearly visible from trains on the Irlam side, which look down onto the old low embankment.
