The pedestrian subway at Rochdale station linked the east and west side entrances with the two island platforms. The east side island closed in 1979 and with it the subway beyond the surviving platform and the east side entrance. Trams returned to Rochdale in 2013 and the complete subway and east entrance were reopened two years later. This is the view of the old access to the east island platform. Trees now grow where there were once substantial buildings - see image 44418 from 1972.
