Black 5 5407 receiving an extra polish in the early morning of 27th May 1984, the epic day on which steam returned to the West Highland line after an absence of 21 years. The sun was not long up, as can be seen by my lengthy shadow. I confess I would not have been out and about so early but for a restless infant son. A short run in the car to see what was what at the engine shed struck me as the perfect recipe for getting him back to sleep.
