Wigan Pier

This little tippler point on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal later became well known as Wigan Pier. It was at the north end of a mineral line, the Winstanley Colliery Railway, which connected various collieries to the south west of Wigan. Coal wagons were tipped and discharged through their end doors into waiting barges. This view looks west towards Gathurst on 28th May 2025.
