Shadwell and St George's East: This is all that remains at platform level of the former Shadwell & St. George's East station, closed in 1941, looking east from the DLR's Shadwell station, opened in 1987, that occupies most of the old station site, on 6th April 2013. The boarded up entrance building still survives at street level.
Donibristle Platform: 67027 and 67023 pass Donibristle with an Edinburgh (ex-Derby) - Montrose - Slateford test train on 9 February 2021. Heaviest snowfall of the winter so far in Fife. Taken during permitted daily exercise.
Udny: On 21st January 2021, as part of my permitted daily exercise, I was on the Formartine and Buchan Way and passed this Permanent Way hut, which is still in good condition. The structure is at Tillyeve, just over a mile south of the site of Udny station and there are the remains of a level crossing behind the camera. The sheep looked envious that I was able to access this shelter on a pretty miserable day.
Gourock: Fairburn 2-6-4T 42274 awaits departure from Gourock with the 17.03 service to Glasgow Central on Friday 28th April 1967. This was the final steam hauled service on the line.
Blaenavon High Level: Former BR Class D4157 shunting on the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway on 27 May 2010
Stirling: Stirling station's glazed roofs seen from above.
Ardrossan South Beach: Under normal circumstances this unit would be sitting at Largs waiting to form the 1553 to Glasgow Central. However, due to the landslips at Fairlie and West Kilbride there are no trains beyond Ardrossan. 380002 bides its time tucked into the rarely used turn back siding at Ardrossan South Beach, which was specially cleared for this purpose by Network Rail, awaiting its booked departure time on 9th February 2021.
Bude: Another photo trying to identify where the railway was once located in Bude. At the time the photo was taken, the feature that caught my eye was the concrete fence in the middle of the picture. It reminded me of the style of fence used by the Southern Railway. A check on NLS maps has shown that the railway was indeed on the other side of the fence, the site of the station was behind the large building in the background and the engine shed to the left of it. Photo taken from beside Kings Hill Road looking north in July 2008.
Moreton-in-Marsh: Left luggage at Moreton-in-Marsh - what a wonderfully convenient idea! Private enterprise is clearly flourishing in the Cotswolds.
Leicester: Mid-morning on the Midland Main Line at Leicester on 8th May 1980. A down Inter City service from St Pancras is calling, hauled by a smartly turned out 45104 'The Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers'. The loco remained in service for a further eight years and was eventually scrapped in Glasgow in 1992.
