Hillington West: Someone didn’t seem to be concerned at taking a dangerous-looking access route to the platform at Hillington West in July 1965. Whether the driver of Standard 2-6-4T 80051 felt quite as relaxed is not known. The train was the 17.02 Hillington West – Glasgow St Enoch.

Boat of Garten: With the trackbed looking a little overgrown, this view was taken from Boat of Garten South SB looking towards Aviemore in June 1974. The Up section home signal post can be seen on the left, at this point still devoid of an arm while on the right beyond the points is the Down Home signal. A year later things looked a lot better and the signal arm had been replaced. See image [[41692]]

Swindon: 31234 and 47079 parked in the station sidings in Swindon on 21 March 1983. 47079 carried the name 'G.J. Churchward' for many years. After several modifications, it underwent major rework to be re-equipped with a Class 66 EMD engine and electrics to become 57009, now owned by Direct Rail Services. Not bad for a loco nearly sixty years old.

Rose Grove: Northern Sprinter 150214 approaches Rose Grove on 1 September 2016 with a service to Colne. The wooded area behind the train conceals the M65 motorway which at this point cuts through the site of what was latterly known as 10F, Rose Grove shed. See image [[27219]] for a view towards the bridge that this photo was taken from.

Redcar Central: A Northern Pacer bound for Saltburn about to pass below Birdsall Row footbridge shortly after leaving Redcar Central on 5 June 2013. The land off to the left between the main line and the former Cleveland Terrace once accommodated a goods depot and coal yard. Today the site is occupied by a large supermarket and car park.

Dumfries Shed: Dumfries station pilot favourite, Fowler design LMS 2P 4-4-0 40670, is seen on the stored loco lines at 68B Dumfries Shed on 24 August 1963. The loco is minus a shed plate, having been withdrawn 8 months earlier in December 1962.

East Kilbride: 156462 just arrived at the terminus at East Kilbride from Glasgow Central, on the evening of 2nd October 2018. This is the only non-electrified line on the Glasgow suburban network. However, an item in issue 926 (March 2021) of RAIL magazine states that work to electrify the line is due to begin 'imminently', including the upgrading of East Kilbride station and relocation of Hairmyres station 600 metres (whatever that is in good old-fashioned yards) to the west.

North Queensferry Tunnel: The lighting, which would now be deemed inadequate, makes the interior of this Class 117 seem rather cosy, as does the enforced intimacy of table-less facing seats (not so much fun at the time). Whatever the bloke with the glabrous pate is doing he isn't checking his phone; even if he could afford one in 1994 there would be nothing to check.

Dalgety Bay: Amid the news that Scotrail HSTs are to increase from four to five coaches there have been movements of HST coaches around the network. 43164 and 43143 sandwich a single coach approaching Dalgety Bay with a Haymarket - Inverness transfer on 2 March 2021.
