Longsight: 70002 has just negotiated the busy line from Trafford Park through Manchester and is about to take the Styal Loop with a late afternoon full load of containers for Southampton. The train has just passed the site of Longsight station, closed in 1958, and the headshunt for the nearby depot is behind the locomotive.

Sheriffhall [2nd]: Looking south along the trackbed of the former Waverley route towards the bridge at Kings Gate in the summer of 2012. The North British line continued to curve north east behind the camera towards Millerhill, whereas today's Borders Railway runs north from the bridge along the 2014 deviation to Newcraighall via Shawfair. The original Edinburgh and Dalkeith took yet another alignment off to the right here. For the view north from the bridge at this time see [[39712]].

Luton Bute Street: Bus to Dunstable, soon after departure from Luton Bus Station, ascending the new incline onto the also new Luton & Dunstable Guided Busway, on 2nd October 2013. This runs along the course of the former GNR Dunstable North to Welwyn Garden City branch, closed to passengers in 1965. At this location the line previously continued on an embankment that took the line over the road in the background on a bridge and into the now demolished Luton Bute Street station. The embankment here was bulldozed to allow construction of the rather steep incline to take buses up from the bus station to the level of the remaining embankment along which the busway runs for a short distance on its way towards Dunstable.

Leyland: 33207 leads a WCRC light engine move from Southall to Carnforth as it passes Leyland on 5 September 2016 with 33025 on the rear and 37685 as the meat in the sandwich. Whilst very nice to see a BRCW Type 3 at work on the mainline in the 21st Century, it is a shame that there isn't a Type 2 version on the network as well.
