Parkside [1st]: GBRf 60087, still in Colas livery, takes a rake of empty biomass wagons from Drax through the site of the first Parkside station, and past the Huskisson memorial, on 8th February 2021. The train was heading for sidings at Tuebrook before being loaded again.

Solway Junction: Seafield Road, Annan, looking north west back towards the town in May 2008. The bridge, which once carried the line to the Solway Viaduct, had been adapted in the late 1950s to carry the waste water pipeline from Chapelcross nuclear power station (opened in 1959). The building dominating the background is part of a timber products company. For a view showing remains of both the Solway Viaduct and Chapelcross see [[17107]].

Kirkconnel: In June 1998 the station buildings at Kirkconnel were looking in a bad way. Restoration or demolition? You got it. The miners' rows behind did however avoid the usual fate of such houses. The local pit (just across the line) closed in 1968.

St Margarets Shed: Looking east from London Road bridge in 1989 to the site of St Margaret's engine shed, which once occupied both sides of the line. The Down ECML has been lifted with the Up line soon to follow, in preparation for electrification.

Milton Junction [Glasgow]: A most unexpected sight emerging from the fog near Milton Junction was Stanier 2-6-0 42948, a type that I believe rarely ventured as far north as Carlisle let alone across the border into Scotland. By the time I had the camera ready the locomotive was past, leaving a closer view of Black 5 45390, which was being brought north minus coupling rods for a visit to Cowlairs works.
