Maud: The excavated site of the turntable at Maud, on 15th April 2025. The rooves of the station buildings on the island passenger platform can just be seen on the right of the picture and the goods loading dock also survives behind the camera.

Coventry: The prototype Very Light Rail unit on demonstration on Greyfriars Street near Coventry station on 21st June 2025. The electric car charging plug is a convenient tool for giving demo rides, and is not the long term solution. The vehicle was light and airy inside; spacious, with a clear dashboard; but surprisingly noisy. Sound insulation is heavy.

Maud: These two rail wagons have been preserved at Maud Junction for some years now. The Peterhead Prison van has been nicely restored but the (incredibly) short wheelbase truck is still in need of some TLC. The latter is marked as RNAD. Was that connected with the Royal Naval Air Station at Longside on the Peterhead branch near Newseat station, or is that just a coincidence? See image [[60500]] of the smaller van from rail level.

Melton Constable: Once the HQ of the Midland & Great Northern Railway, the station at Melton Constable still looked imposing despite the level of demolition which had already taken place when this shot was taken on a warm summer day in 1971. Passenger services had ended on 06/04/1964 although goods traffic continued until December of that year.

Arisaig: In the early 1980s, a ScotRail initiative saw an ex-LMS inspection saloon converted into an observation car for use on the Mallaig extension. It is seen here attached to the back of a Mallaig-Fort William service crossing the steam hauled ‘West Highlander’ at Arisaig in August 1984.

Balquhidder [2nd]: This view looks north from Balquhidder junction. The trackbed can be seen stretching away from left of the bottom centre. The Callander and Oban initially climbed to a viaduct near Edinchip House beyond which it ran on the eastern flank of Meall Reamhar above Lochearnhead before entering Glen Ogle (distant right).
