Armagh Rail Crash results in the death of 88 people, 22 of whom were children. A heavily loaded excursion leaves Armagh to climb the bank. Stalling near the summit the train is divided. The rear portion ran back downhill towards Armagh striking the next train (the line was operated by time interval). The accident leads to the passing of the Regulation of Railways Act of 30/08/1889.
