Kildangan to Athy and Mageny to Carlow singled, the lifted line being used for collieries. Connecting with the Great Southern and Western Railway, Athy to Wolfhill opened. Built by British Government. (Castlecomer line opened in 1919.)

Cut back to near Athy, remaining as a headshunt reached by a viaduct over the River Barrow for a cement works.
