Ben Alder Level Crossing: A view looking west of the Ben Alder Level Crossing, just south of Dalwhinnie station, in 2000.
Ewan Crawford //2000
This level crossing is south of Dalwhinnie station. A private road, which runs south west along the north shore of Loch Ericht into the Ben Alder Estate, crosses the double track line here.
The gates are currently (August 2021) locked and with CCTV coverage.
In addition to the road crossing gates there are small gates for pedestrians (formerly kissing gates). The crossing provides access to an extensive area of mountain, moor and loch which is popular with walkers, cyclists, climbers and others. Ben Alder itself is over 11 miles away as the crow flies.
To the south another estate road passes under the railway, a link from this running close to the dam on Loch Ericht to the estate road previously described.
