Description

This is a large stone obelisk, 103 ft high. It is a monument to George Buchanan 1502-1582 born nearby at Moss (a mile and a half south of Killearn). Educated at Paris and St Andrews. He was the classical tutor of Mary Queen of Scots, principal of St Andrews and educated King James VI - later king of the United Kingdom.
