This colliery was on the south side of the Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway east of today's Stepps station. It was rail served from Cardowan Signal Box. The site of the surface buildings is now housing.
Murray & Paterson , of Coatbank Engine Works, manufactured the winding engines for the Cardowan Colliery.
There was a locomotive from Gibb & Hogg of Airdrie.
