Chirmorie Summit (1877-)

Opened on the Girvan and Portpatrick Junction Railway.

Description

This summit, between Barrhill (to the north) and Glenwhilly (to the south) is at 690 ft. It is the summit of the line between Girvan and Stranraer. The line crosses high exposed moorland here with drifting snow a problem in winter.

There were surfacemen's cottages at the summit, now ruined.

Chirmorie itself (with hills, a farm and a loch) is off to the east of the line, the hill topped with an aerial mast.

Today there is a large windfarm to the west.
