This junction opened as part of a west to east curve which allowed direct running west from Plymouth, (before it opened trains reversed at Plymouth Millbay).
The west to east curve was opened in 1876 and Plymouth North Road opened in 1877 (now simply Plymouth). The west end of the curve was Devonport Loop Junction and the station was at the east end.
Millbay closed to passengers in 1941. The Cornwall Junction to Cornwall Loop Junction curve closed in 1964. The Millbay line closed in 1971.
Devonport Junction was to the west.
