Description

This was the terminus of the single track line from Leadburn. To the west, over the A702, was the terminus of the Caledonian Railway from Carstairs.

The layout was slightly altered over the years. The original layout had the line terminate with a loop, the platform on the north side of this loop was a small building, the west end of the loop was the goods yard. A siding from this loop ran west to reach a turntable and stone built locomotive shed.

The Caledonian Railway's line opened in 1867 and this ran through from the west to a junction just east of the existing station. It ran along the north side of the existing station. This placed the Caley's line on the through east-west line and the NB station as the terminus of a very short branch. Through services did not run, but traffic exchange was possible.

A signal box opened in 1895 at the east end of the platform, around the time of alterations to the layout. The loop was shortened, the west end (which was the goods end and loading bank) being reduced but with a short extension at the east end. The platform was extended and the station building was replaced with a North British Railway style building, much larger than its predecessor and the equivalent at the CR station.

The line closed in 1933, but was restored to serve RNAD Coalyburn and RNAD Leadburn in 1939. The track through to Dolphinton survived until 1960.

After closure the station has remained largely intact, becoming a house 'Sunnyside'. Houses have been built nearby, one on the former connecting line. The station building and locomotive shed both still stand.
