Forres shed was located north of the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway station and south of the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway alignment (the Forres bypass).
It was a two road shed approached from the west, from Forres West Junction. The turntable was to the west of the shed.
It was located here as lines radiated to Inverness, Aberdeen and south to Perth over Dava Summit. The shed provided piloting engines for the climb to Dava Summit to the south.
The shed was assigned code 60E by British Railways.
The Highland Railway's sleeper creosoting plant was located by the shed.
The site of the shed has been cleared, only inspection pits remaining in the 1980s.
