Fraserburgh's Balaklava Harbour became a series of docks, following which the outer harbour was built.
For these works the Fraserburgh Harbour Commissioners used locomotives. A Alexander Chaplin Co Ltd locomotive of 1877 was used (transferred to Gartverrie Fireclay Works after the work was completed around 1885). A second locomotive, from Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co was used in 1912, (transferred to Turners Asbestos Cement Ltd).
