Inverness Ammunition Depot (1916-1919)

Opened on the Inverness and Nairn Railway.

Description

A large ammunition depot was established alongside Inverness Harbour during the Great War. The depot was associated with the Grand Fleet based at Scapa Flow.

The depot was located on the east bank of the River Ness and served by new sidings from the harbour branch laid to the north of the existing lines. Approach was from Rose Street Junction. There was a narrow gauge railway within the site.
