A second locomotive shed opened west of Kilmarnock Junction on the south side of the line. The original shed at Kilmarnock Shed [1st] possibly fell in other uses. The new shed had a turntable and had a complex arrangement of sidings from west and east. To the immediate north was Bonnyton Junction, junction with the tram line north to Bonnyton Pit.
This shed site was later the site of Kilmarnock Carriage Shed [2nd].
Kilmarnock Shed [3rd] opened north of Kilmarnock station replacing the 1st and 2nd sheds. It in turn was replaced by Hurlford Shed.
