Station code: KGE National Rail ScotRailThis is a two platform station. There is no car park. A station house remains next to the west end of the station and level crossing, in use as a house. The line runs parallel to the Union Canal here (it is just to the north) and the railway passes over the canal just to the east.
The station was briefly known as Slateford before Slateford [2nd] opened to the east of the Slateford Viaduct. The station was renamed Kings Knowes very briefly before becoming Kingsknowe.
A goods yard existed to the west of the station, on the north side of the line and approached from the east. The signal box was also on the west side of the crossing and on the north side of the line. A siding of the goods yard was used to fill in Hailes Quarry with refuse. This was located west of the station and a tunnel passed under the Union Canal to the northern, and larger, part of the quarry.
The box closed in 1983, taken over by the Edinburgh Signalling Centre.
