This short tunnel is west of Galashiels station. It currently carries one track under High Buckholmside (the A7). Prior to the closure of the Waverley Route it carried two lines.
The land to the north of the railway is considerably higher than the line and land to the south and there is an immense retaining wall east of the tunnel. This was the site of a major landslip in 1916 which completely blocked the line.
Paterson's No 1 Siding was directly east of the tunnel on the south side and Paterson's No 2 Siding was to the west of the tunnel, also on the south side.
