Description

This station opened in the north of Launceston in 1886, just to the south of the Launceston [GWR] terminus. It was briefly the terminus of the line from Halwill Junction before being extended, in 1892, to Wadebridge [2nd] and Padstow. It was a two platform station with the main building on the westbound platform (town side of the station). The goods yard was on the south side of the station.

A connection was put in between the North Cornwall Railway and Launceston and South Devon Railway in 1943 by the Railway Executive. This allowed trains approaching from the east on the Tavistock [GWR] line to enter the Launceston [LSWR] station. The connection was made between the stations and where the lines crossed to the east.

The Launceston [GWR] station closed to passengers in 1952 and completely in 1962. Launceston [LSWR] survived until 1966.

The site of both stations is now an industrial estate. Launceston station, terminus of the Launceston Steam Railway, opened to the west of Launceston [LSWR] on the former trackbed.
