North Cornwall Railway

Introduction

This railway extended the London and South Western Railway associated railway to Launceston [LSWR], Wadebridge [2nd] and Padstow, which was the furthest the LSWR reached from London. It opened throughout in 1892 and closed in 1966, with many of the former LSWR lines in the area. Padstow was to survive for another year, approached from Bodmin General.

It was part of the system referred to as the 'Withered Arm', the LSWR lines west of Exeter.

The Launceston Steam Railway uses a short portion of the trackbed, running west from a new (in 1983) Launceston station.
