The Highland Railway bought the existing Kyle House in 1897 in order to convert it into a hotel. It is a two storey building with attic.
The hotel became a British Transport Hotel. It was sold in 1983.
The hotel is located by, and to the west of, the former Kyle of Lochalsh Slip for Kyleakin. A little further west is Kyle of Lochalsh station and pier.

Although steamers connected with trains this gave passengers somewhere to stay where the connection time was longer or for those who wished to stay in the area.
