Lochdhu Lodge

Location type

Name and dates

Lochdhu Lodge (1895-)

Description

This hunting lodge was built for Sir Tollemache Sinclair, of Ulbster, on the east bank of Loch Dhu in 1895. Due to its remote location materials were transported by rail to Altnabreac (opened 1874) and then taken the short distance south to the site. The station is a mile to the north.

The building is a two storey Scottish Baronial mansion.

For a time this was a seasonal hotel (1960? to 1975), known as the Lochdhu Hotel. It was particularly a fishing hotel, those staying at the hotel being able to fish in the nearby lochs and trout streams for free, also used as a base for grouse shooting and deer stalking.

The lodge remains standing in private ownership.
