This works predated the Great War, with material being sent to the explosives works at Ardeer. There was a narrow gauge system within the works which may have extended to Dinnet station. It closed at the end of the war.
The works was for the extraction and drying of Diatomite (Keiselguhr), a layer of which found below the peat.
