The 'Station Hall' of the National Railway Museum started life as the principal goods station of the North Eastern Railway in York.
It was built during the 1870s as part of the huge re-organisation of the railways in York when the old station, a terminus, was replaced by a new through station. It replaced the goods facilities on the south side of the approach to the old station.
The goods closed in the 1960s.
The National Railway Museum [York] was opened in 1975.
