| / /1802 | Sirhowy Tramroad Established by Sir Charles Morgan to run from the Tredegar Iron Works to Nine Mile Point, to run via the Monmouthshire Canal Tramway from there to Newport. Tramroads were built by the partners in the iron works to run to the Trevil Quarries and from Nantybwch to the Union Iron Works at Rhymney. |
| 26/06/1802 | Monmouthshire Canal Tramway Act passed for the Monmouthshire Canal to build a line from Newport to Nine Mile Point and from Risca to Crumlin to join the Beaufort Ironworks Tramway. |
| / /1822 | Monmouthshire Canal Tramway Sirhowy Tramroad Horse-drawn passenger service starts between Newport and Tredegar. |
| 09/03/1853 | Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company In Newport, extended from temporary terminus at Newport Marshes Turnpike Gate to Newport Mill Street station. |

| 21/12/1874 | Pontypool, Caerleon and Newport Railway Opened from Pontypool North Junction to Panteg Junction avoiding Coedygric Sidings. Passenger train start to use the line and run to Newport station on the South Wales Railway. |
| / /1878 | Pontypool, Caerleon and Newport Railway Connection made from Llantarnam Junction to Cwmbran Junction on the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company line. Great Western Railway trains divert to main Newport station. |
| 01/01/1879 | Monmouthshire Canal Tramway South Wales Railway Park Junction to Gaer Junction opened allowing Western Valleys access to use the main Newport station, High Street. |

| 14/09/1891 | Caerphilly Branch (Brecon and Merthyr Railway) New 'up' (eastwards to Newport) route opened between Gwaun y Bara Junction and Machen. Known as the 'Machen Loop' Line. This effectively doubles the route. |
| 01/01/1899 | Great Western Railway Takes over the Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Newport Railway's Newport to Pontypridd passenger service. |

| 10/07/1922 | Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Newport Railway Tram Road Motor Halt, Pontypridd, closed when the Great Western Railway arranges for Newport trains to use the Taff Vale Railway's Pontypridd station. |
| 05/05/1941 | Talywain Branch Closed to passengers for Newport, Pontypool and Brynmawr service. |
| 30/05/1955 | Coleford, Monmouth, Usk and Pontypool Railway Newport to Monmouth Troy closed to passengers. |
| 31/12/1962 | Brecon and Merthyr Railway Closed to passengers from Brecon to Newport. |
| 01/07/1963 | Caerphilly Branch (Brecon and Merthyr Railway) Caerphilly to Newport workmen trains withdrawn. |
| 31/03/1979 | Taff Vale Extension Pontypool, Panteg and Coedygric Junction, to Hafodyrynys Colliery closed. Removed for road repairs. Sidings at Pontypool South and Coedygric removed and new sidings for BSC Stainless Panteg laid. Pontypool station signal box replaced by panel at Newport. |
| 06/12/2008 | Beaufort Ironworks Tramway Ebbw Vale Parkway, Llanhilleth, Crumlin, Crosskeys, Risca & Pontymister and Rogerstone re-opened. Access was from Cardiff, to the west, rather than the nearby Newport. |
