This large oil works was on the west side of the A701. It was owned by the Clippens Oil Company, owners of the Clippens Oil Works.
It was served by a branch which ran west from the Edinburgh, Loanhead and Roslin Railway to serve the Straiton Oil Works before crossed the A701 on the level to reach the Pentland works.
A narrow gauge line passed under the A701 just north of the level crossing before running north to a shale mine.
The works closed in 1897. The offices, by the A701, survived until recent times.
The site now has a variety of uses: farmland, rough ground, housing and fast food outlets.
