This was the works of Alley and MacLellan. It was located on the east side of Polmadie Bridge, south of the West Coast Main Line (former Polloc and Govan Railway) opposite the Polmadie Depot.
In 1918 William Beardmore & Co Ltd took control of Alley and MacLellan. The 1916 Sentinel Wagon Works, Shrewsbury, was now for steam vehicle production and the Glasgow works now focused on other products.
The company was known for the development of the Sentinel Steam Railcar, used on several countryside lines where passenger traffic was low. The company bought the rights to steam wagons in 1906.
After the railway related production was moved south, Sentinel-Cammell railcars were introduced on the Forth and Clyde Junction Railway and Deeside Railway in 1929, and the Strathendrick and Aberfoyle Railway in 1930. Railcars also ran on the Methven branch from Methven Junction (some running out from Perth).
