This works was owned by the Shettleston Oil & Chemical Co Ltd. The works was east of Shettleston Junction on the south side of the Glasgow and Coatbridge Branch (North British Railway), just east of where Shettleston Yard was developed. It was rail served by a line running out from the junction.
The works had its own locomotives, one of which was a Alexander Chaplin & Co Ltd 0-4-0 vertical boilered locomotive of 1868 (built at the original Cranstonhill Engine Works [1st] site).
