This was a three way junction approached from Cardonald Junction to the south.
It was formed in 1903 when the Shieldhall Branch (Glasgow and Paisley Joint Railway) was met by the new Glasgow and Renfrew District Railway. Both lines were joint Caledonian Railway and Glasgow and South Western Railway.
This was a double track junction with a signal box on the west side, opened with the junction.
The junction was renamed Shieldhall Junction in 1915.
The Renfrew Porterfield (Renfrew District) line closed to passengers in 1926.
In 1931 it became a three way junction with the opening of the King George V Dock, accessed via Shieldhall Yard which was laid out with its southern end in the 'V' of the junction.
The signal box closed in 1932, but the lines remained open.
The Shieldhall Goods line, the original branch, closed in the late 1970s/early 80s. Track was left in place but became overgrown with trees.
In 1986 the junction ceased to exist as a conventional junction. Shieldhall Yard was lifted as far as the boundary with the dock authority to the north (dockside lines not embedded in cobbles or concrete were lifted several years later). The Shieldhall Goods track was taken out at the junction.
The line to Deanside Transit only remained open. Shieldhall Junction became the north end of a loop which commences just north of Cardonald Junction.
Deanside Transit traffic has ceased but the line remains.
