This was a small goods station, a loop on the north side of the line with a loading bank. To the west was a railway cottage (the agent's house) which still stands. The goods station was a railhead for the surrounding area. To the west the line continued by a level crossing to the Steelend Mines (Saline Valley Colliery). To the east it ran to Gask Junction and on to Lilliehill Junction and Townhill Junction, Dunfermline. The line opened in 1858.
Around 1874 Lethans Colliery was served by a short branch from the Saline Valley Colliery line. The Lethans Colliery was just to the south of the Saline Valley Colliery. A locomotive 'The Mountaineer' (by Barclays of Kilmarnock) was delivered for the colliery.
The Lethans Colliery was taken over the by the Wilsons and Clyde Coal Company and redeveloped around 1905. A far larger development of that company led to the Steelend Branch Extension (North British Railway) being built from Lethans Junction to run round the east side of Knock Hill to Lethans Colliery Pit No 1.
Lethans Colliery Pit No 1 closed in late 1919 although the line to it was officially closed in 1935. Lethans Colliery Pit No 2 closed in 1938 and the line west over the level crossing fell out of use, although it officially closed later.
Steelend Goods closed in 1941 although the loading bank remained in use.
From Lethans Colliery Pit No 2 through Steelend Goods to Gask Junction (excluded) closed in 1951.
At the goods station a hump in the ground exists where the loading bank was, but the cottage remains.
