This was the works of John & Thomas Young, on the west side of York Street where it met Clunes Vennal (now Crown Street). The site was west of Ayr [1st] station and without railway connection. Although not their usual expertise (mining, marine - at least 28 vessels' main engines, farming), the works is known to have produced a 0-4-0ST locomotive in 1863 for Taylor & Co's Auchincruive Waggonway.
