Wellhill Cistern

Opened on the Fauldhouse Moor Branch (William Dixon Ltd).

Description

This cistern was located on the south side of the Wilsontown, Morningside and Coltness Railway at Wellhill, directly east of East Badallan. A flooded drain, engine well, was used as the source of water for locomotives. The source was unclean, introducing solids into the locomotives.

William Hurst inspected the site when the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway was absorbed by the North British Railway.

This was later the site of the junction for the Fauldhouse Moor Branch (William Dixon Ltd).
